Sarah Russell BSc(Hons)
Head of Education

Hi I’m Sarah and I have been working for Orbis Education and Care for 7 years. I have worked in both schools starting my career at Ty Coryton and now working at Ty Bronllys as the Senior Teacher. I oversee the day to day running of the school, supporting the teachers to deliver high standards of education. Ty Bronllys is a great school with a fantastic staff team in both Education and Care. I am delighted to be working with such a great organisation which encourages staff development and progression.  The needs of the learners are at the centre of everything that we do and we are rewarded each day by being a part of the lives of the wonderful young people that we work with.

I completed my PGCE at the University of South Wales and from the very start of my education I knew i wanted to work with young people with additional learning needs. I have worked in varying positions within Orbis Education which has given me the necessary experience to lead the education team.

Ty Bronllys school caters for each young person’s individual needs and pupils have made fantastic progress since attending the school. Students participate in many offsite activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, swimming and horse-riding and it’s great to be able to join in the fun with them!

Class 1 Teacher

I have worked for Orbis Education and Care for over 3 years and am proud to be part of such a dynamic and inspirational education team. I am very excited to complete my PGCE in June.

Class 1

We are a very busy class, with lots of energy and believe that learning can be great fun! We enjoy using our ever-increasing independent skills both in class and during offsite activities. We are constantly looking after not only our minds, but also our bodies and participate in activities such as: PedalPower, Rebound, yoga, indoor archery and swimming.

We currently have 4 students, 1 teacher and our learning support assistants Emma and Jill who work so well with each pupil in the class.

Class Achievements

This year all our pupils in KS3 and above are on track to complete at least 5 accreditations.

Pupils have also began completing work experience as a regular part of their timetable, developing their life skills, work skills, communication and social skills. Sam runs his own ‘Samwich Station‘, which involves shopping for ingredients, taking orders, making and delivering sandwiches to other pupils and staff.  Joshua and Aaron are working together to reduce the amount of waste we create with Aaron sorting waste into paper and plastic and Joshua taking this to recycle.

Also, Joshua has started the Tuck Truck round selling snacks to his peers, ensuring enough stock is available and going on shopping trips to refill supplies.

Well done class 1!

Class 2 Teacher

Since joining Orbis Education and Care I have been fortunate to gain experience in varying roles in the education, care and clinical sectors. This experience has enabled me to ensure that my teaching practice encompasses a Multi-Disciplinary Team approach. I understand the importance of delivering a 24-hour curriculum for the learners that currently reside with us and I have the ability to support each young person with their learning, play, independence and social development across varying environments.

Class 2

Class 2 is a friendly and welcoming class with great young people! We enjoy offsite activities which include work experience in The Orb, shopping, swimming and trips to the local cafe. Our class currently has four pupils, and all are 14 and over.

The class has one teacher, one learning support assistant and additional residential education workers. Our LSA Martin has lots of experience within education and has built great relationships with each pupil.

Class 2 Achievements

This year Class 2 are making great achievements!

All pupils are on target to achieve 5 accreditations.

Pupils are all completing work experience as part of their weekly learning, including life skills, cooking and gardening.  Pupils also enjoy completing work experience at The Orb.

Our young people access the community regularly, working on money skills and communication through shopping and eating out. We also enjoy physical exercise offsite including pedal power and swimming.

Well done class 2!
