WelcomeTy Bronllys opened its doors in 2006 as a direct response to requests made by the local authority. It’s main aim was and still is to provide bespoke education and care to young people with Autism and complex needs.

The ‘home’ was originally built as the main house for the Doctor and his wife of Ty Bronllys hospital and is set in a rural location overlooking the Black Mountains, close to the village of Bronllys and approximately 10 minutes from Brecon. The perimeter of the site is a mixture of physical boundaries in the form of hedgerows and fencing which range from 1.8m to 2.4m in height. The grounds currently include hard and grass recreation play areas, a wooded area, an orchard, kitchen/horticulture gardens and a Polly Tunnel where pupils can develop a range of environmental and horticultural based skills through concrete experiential learning experiences that promote outside learning opportunities.

The school first opened with only one female pupil however quickly filled to full capacity which provoked it’s sister school being built one year later in Cardiff, known as Ty Coryton.

The school and home remain a tranquil environment due to the very fortunate position within Wales and pupils continue to enjoy the outdoors as part of their physical education and free time.
